Dear Appreciated Clients and
Friends,
My
personal belief is that when we treat the environment with the respect it
deserves, there are no losers. That is, what is good for Mother Earth
usually saves me money and simplifies my life. Win/win/win.
For
me personally there is another win. One that is more subtle, yet more
telling. More simple, and yet more profound. That is when I green my
environment, I am living my values through my pocketbook. My values,
thoughts, speech and actions are in alignment.
I
had the pleasure of hearing Eve Ensler speak recently, and she said, “When we
speak the truth we are free.” To that I would add, when we align our
values, thoughts, speech, and actions, we are free.
We
make choices everyday. When those choices are aligned with who we really
are, we make a profound difference in the world.
In
this article of the Joy and Money newsletter, I have taken some tips from
www.realmoney.org on
how to green your office environment.
We
began greening our office several years ago by adding recycling bins for
paper. Over the years we have added one or two new things a year, and
there is still more we can do.
Have some fun with these
ideas. Consider a green coordinator, or a green team to promote
eco-friendly practices in your workplace. Then sit back and begin to
notice how good you feel about where you work.
Blessings,

Merkt: Prosperity
“I personally
have been on a prosperity mission ever since reading Mackey’s book. I've
begun to explore where my old beliefs and patterns originated, and now I am
creating healthier habits.” Rosie Merkt,
Reflexologist
Rosie bought Mackey’s book, The Intersection of Joy and Money, on the
recommendation of a friend, never knowing how it would change her life.
While vacationing with her husband in
“My husband and I were wowed at the
enthusiasm this book conjured up in us. We called Mackey to set up a
consultation when we got back from our vacation,” explains
Rosie.
During the initial consultation,
Rosie started to feel nauseous. She had no idea that discussing her
financial situation would make her body react so strongly. Since her
husband had to leave quickly at the end of the meeting to get to work, Rosie had
some one-on-one time alone with Mackey.
“Mackey is so intuitive. She
asked if I was okay and I began to let my emotions out. I kept wanting to
leave – so as not to overstay my time – but Mackey cared so much and was a
compassionate witness as I released my tears,” recalls
Rosie.
Rosie and her husband continue to
grow and explore their relationship with money. They became Financial
Advising clients of Mackey’s Firm, The Advisory Team and also have weekly money
meetings on their own to discuss their prosperity plan.

Greening your
Office
Many state-level recycling
initiatives state that the average office employee generates a half-pound of
paper waste every day. But every half-pound of paper that an office recycles
saves the equivalent of one pound of greenhouse gas emissions, plus the
equivalent weight in trees. Remember to keep your own daily consumption of paper
out of the landfill, and read on for more ways to eliminate
waste.
Here are some
tips from Real Money, with notations from
1. Buy
recycled:
Paper made from 100 percent
post-consumer recycled content is often the same price as all-virgin paper. Buy
in bulk to save money. In addition to copy paper, you can find products
like envelopes, calendars, planners, and stationery also made from recycled
paper.
Remanufactured ink and laser toner
for printers and fax machines save you money while you save the Earth. Remember
to close the waste loop by turning in your old toner cartridges for
recycling. We send our cartridges to
Cartridges for Kids, which supports Children’s Hospital in
2. Reduce your paper consumption:
You can cut down on paper use by
making some simple changes of habit. Set your printer to print on both sides of
the paper, and modify the format of standard documents (wider margins, smaller
font size) to fit more text on a single page. Edit documents on screen to avoid
printing draft copies, and circulate memos and reports via e-mail when you can.
Convert old single-side pages into scratch pads, and reuse envelopes. Convert your newsletter to
e-mail!
4. Reuse what you
can:
Use incoming shipping boxes for your
outgoing mail, donate excess supplies to local nonprofits and schools, and even
donate your computers and office furniture when you
update.
5. Audit your waste:
WasteWise, a no-fee voluntary
program run by the EPA, helps you audit your office’s output of municipal solid
waste, producing a report on waste elimination strategies specific to your own
office environment. Once you’ve generated your report, WasteWise helps you track
your office’s success at reducing your refuse.
6. We recently purchased green tags from
NativeEnergy's
WindBuilderssm program to offset the carbon
dioxide pollution our office creates each year. WindBuilderssm
“plants” new wind
turbines with the dollars we sent. Wind turbines produce clean,
renewable energy that reduce the use of fossil fuels to create electricity,
reducing global warming pollution.
7. Eliminate disposable dishes and glasses. Use
the real McCoy, glass, ceramic and silver instead. Install an energy
efficient dishwasher and make everyone in your office
smile.
8. Introduce your
office to Fair Trade
Certified™ coffee. Find out more about Fair Trade products at www.coopamerica.org
9. Remember to
turn off the lights when you go home!
10. Recycle pop
cans, glass and plastic.
